"Famous Writings Collections" - Part 22 compiled by Shri. Gopalkrishna Vaidyanathan Iyer (G.V. Iyer)
1) The more you study, the more you know.
The more you know, the more you can forget.
The more you forget, the less you know.
So, why study?
Meaning: A funny and self-explanatory quote that mocks the habit of studying. The quote tries to make fun of the reasons to study.
2) A vicious cycle:
Peace begets prosperity;
prosperity begets pride;
pride begets prejudice;
prejudice begets war;
war begets poverty.
Meaning: The quote tells how the world is trapped by a cruel process as peace leads to wealth. A wealthy man possesses pride and starts discrimination, which again leads to a war-like situation, and ultimately people are deprived of their basic necessities leading to poverty.
3) All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action.
Meaning: Just one step full of love triumphs over all other emotions that may appear beautiful on the surface but lack anything meaningful.
4) Man confesses small faults, in order to hide serious ones.
Meaning: If you find a man always trying to accept his small mistakes, probably he is afraid that one day he will be caught for the serious crimes that he has done in his life.
5) The superior man seeks what is right; the inferior one, what is profitable.
Meaning: A man who has strong values always looks to do what is morally and ethically right but a person who lacks these values always looks for ways to earn quick profits and live luxuriously.
